About

Afro Viking Pictures was founded in  April 2016 by Halifax based artists Taylor Olson and Koumbie. Whether it is in front of, or behind the camera – this filmmaking team is passionate about telling stories that focus on mental health, LGBTQ stories, stories dealing with racial identity, or social justice issues.

Afro Viking Pictures first project was the LGBTQ football centric short film Hustle & Heart, which won several awards including CBC’s Short Film Face Off & Best Atlantic Short at the Atlantic Film Festival. They followed it up quickly with the relationship rom-com  and 1Kwave Atlantic feature film Ariyah & Tristan’s Inevitable Break, Up, which  has also screened at several festivals in Atlantic Canada, and was nominated for both ACTRA and Screen NS Awards alongside Hustle & Heart.

Since then the team has three award winning short films on the film festival circuit right now: Perfectly SaneHorizontal Concavity Cut. Both Horizontal Concavity Perfectly Sane won awards at Bluenose Ability Film Festival, Best Local Film, and the Lion Of Courage Award, respectively.

Looking to the future, Taylor and Koumbie are in the process of writing a feature length drama about sexual violence The Bystander Effect, and are hungry to create everywhere and anywhere.
